Rugby Expo deferred until 2010

It was announced on 16th July that Rugby Expo 09 is to be deferred until November 2010.

Following the success of the inaugural event in 2008, the organisers had focused on expanding the international attendance at the event in 2009, by attracting exhibitors, sponsors and delegates representative of all the rugby playing nations.

Following the 16th June announcement of the Fiji Autumn International date change bringing the Twickenham internationals forward a week, the proposed dates now fall outside the England Autumn International window that Expo was scheduled to fall within. With the foreseen impact of this on Southern Hemisphere attendance, in conjunction with the wider economic downturn and resultant reduction in the ability and willingness of many prospective attendees to travel, it has been decided to defer to a new date in 2010 when the global aspect of the event will be assured.

The organisers are determined to deliver the international event they set out to and have already sold. It is in everyone’s interest that the event builds on the success of 2008 and this is the key motivation behind the decision to defer to 2010.

We look forward to continuing discussions with the various rugby playing nations and international federations and to confirming their continued support for the event in 2010.
